Greater Phoenix AmeriCorps
Member
It’s your community and AmeriCorps is
your chance to make it better. HandsOn Greater Phoenix is looking for ten
dedicated individuals who want to better their lives and the lives of
others in the community. Is that you?
HandsOn Greater
Phoenix AmeriCorps members serve for twelve months
at a local shelter, school or community organization as volunteer
project coordinators
engaging others in volunteer service to meet needs within the community.
Members will serve on a team of ten and gain
valuable nonprofit, career and leadership experience.
Hours:
Members will begin service in early September, 2008 and will serve
through August, 2009. A minimum of 1700 hours must be served within the
term, and members will serve an average of 35-45 hours per week.
Service hours are set to meet the needs of each of the ten positions and
may vary per host site. Traditionally members are asked to serve
Monday–Friday during business hours, plus evening & weekends as needed.

Members will

Members will focus on the following
during their year of service:

Collaboration - partner with
HandsOn Greater Phoenix staff and other AmeriCorps members to generate
new project ideas, civic education opportunities or other
possibilities unique to each host site and member

Volunteer Engagement – create new
opportunities for volunteer, and recruit, recognize and retain new
volunteers in service
-
Capacity Building at Community Based
Nonprofits – help to strengthen nonprofit volunteer management
infrastructure by developing volunteer programs, processes and/or
new resources.

AmeriCorps Leadership Development –
participate in training and ongoing professional and personal
development opportunities
-
Team Participation and Community
Service – meet monthly with other AmeriCorps members, create team
service projects, serve on Disaster Response Team.
Positions:
This program places members in the
Phoenix Metropolitan area. Members will be placed either within
the HandsOn Greater Phoenix office or at a local shelter, school or community
organization. The sites and positions address issues relating to
homelessness, health care, youth, education, disaster response and much
more. All candidates should be comfortable working in an office
environment. A list of host sites will be available soon.
